Prodigy Sentanced To 3 1/2 Years In Prison For Weapons Charges

Prodigy, one half of the rap group Mobb Deep, will serve three-and-a-half years in prison after pleading guilty to a 2006 weapons charge.

According to the New York Daily News, the rapper was indicted on one count of gun possession at Manhattan Supreme Court in New York.

The charge stems from his October 2006 arrest after NYPD pulled over his Chevy Suburban for making an illegal U-turn and found an unlicensed .22 pistol inside of his vehicle.

The 32-year-old, born Albert Johnson, initially claimed he had no knowledge of the weapon, which was located in a compartment between his driver's seat and the front passenger seat, where hip-hop producer The Alchemist was sitting, reports the Daily News.

But midway through the trial, Prodigy confessed to owning the gun and struck a deal with prosecutors. The agreement limited his jail term to just three-and-a-half years instead of the usual 15 – the sentence normally given to felons like Prodigy who are facing their third weapons charge.
